Moving!

Monday, July 21, 2008 9:49 AM Posted by Shannon Smith 6 comments
Psalms 37:4-5
Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

For the past several years Josh and I have felt that the Lord would have us to work in a full-time Ministry of some sort. We've been praying along those lines, but the Lord left us where we were serving at our church in Merrill, WI.

About a month ago Josh interviewed with Regular Baptist Press (a ministry of the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches, GARBC) in Schaumburg, IL. Last week they offered Josh the job of Senior System Administrator & Media Specialist. He starts on August 4th!!

Because of the time frame, Josh will be going down first to start the job and look for us a place to live. Cynthia and I will be moving in with my parents for the month of August and then joining Josh towards the end of August.

Praise the Lord for his answered prayers and for giving us the desire of our hearts!

Please pray with us as the next few weeks/month will be extremely busy for us!

Vacation!!

Wednesday, July 02, 2008 10:19 PM Posted by Shannon Smith 1 comments

It's that time of the summer. VACATION!!

Friday we're going to Freedom Celebration up at Northland. Then we're leaving Saturday morning to fly with my parents to visit my brother Mark and his wife Krystina for a week-long vacation!! Melinda will be joining us on Sunday and then David will join us on Thursday.

While gone we'll be spending a few days in Washington DC playing the role of tourists then we're heading over to Mark's house near Virginia Beach to spend the rest of our visit!!

All of the McMillen clan will be there so there are sure to be some fun times had.
I think sometime in there we'll make a trip to the beach and a trip to the zoo. Beyond that, no plans. We're going to have fun with each other and hopefully do some swimming!

I'm excited for Mark, Krystina and Melinda to see Cynthia again. They haven't seen her for several months.

Have a Great 4th of July!!

PS: No, the picture really doesn't have anything to do with vacation, but no post is complete without including Cynthia!

A Visit and Small Vacation with the Smith Grandparents

Friday, June 20, 2008 5:08 PM Posted by Shannon Smith 1 comments
Josh's parents were here visiting last week. We had a great time with them and I think they enjoyed getting to know Cynthia again.

On Friday we went on an adventure with them! The plan was to drive down to Iowa to visit relatives. Well, because of flooding in Madison and several places in Iowa we were detoured several times and spent 11 1/2 hours in the car that day! Cynthia did so great in the car and wasn't really fussy until the last hour of the trip. But I must say that we were SO ready go get to Josh's Grandma Smith's house that evening!!

We enjoyed our trip and Cynthia got to meet lots of people which of course she enjoyed! Here are a few pictures from or trip.

One of our many stops during the day

Beautiful landscape along the way

We found this "telephone booth" at a rest stop as we were entering Minnesota. Couldn't resist a funny picture!

Cynthia did GREAT on our trip....except.....at night. For some reason she developed a HUGE aversion to going to bed while we were gone. The only way we could calm her down to sleep at night was to let her watch her favorite DVD which is a baby sign language DVD. She loves that thing and will sit there and squeal at the babies she sees! Needless to say, we saw this movie a lot during our trip!

Easter Weekend

Thursday, March 27, 2008 3:35 PM Posted by Shannon Smith 3 comments
We had a wonderful Easter weekend. We enjoyed a visit from Josh's sister Jenny. She hadn't seen Cynthia since December, so I think she enjoyed the visit as well. On Saturday we took Cynthia to JCPenney for her first professional photo shoot. The pictures turned out so cute! I can't wait to get them back. Hopefully I'll be able to post the pictures on here soon.

Our Resurrection Sunday was great as well. The day started out with an Easter Breakfast at church. We had a very nice church service as well and were encouraged that there were several visitors.

Sunday afternoon was spent with my parents and a lovely Ham dinner.

Here are a few pictures of our weekend. If you'd like to see more, click here.

day-lee me

When Josh started his new job he was required to wear a shirt and tie to work every day. He still had quite a collection of ties from his Northland days, but we had to go buy him a few more as well as some new dress shirts.

After viewing his collection, he decided to see how long he could go without duplicating a shirt and tie combination.

You can view his project here.
He is also going to be posting a new family photo every Sunday!

Surgery Update

Just wanted to update you all on my dad's surgery.
He did very well in the surgery and didn't have any complications.
He is recovering very well. The doctors and nurses are telling him that he's doing excellent. He's been up walking several times already and had a little bit of therapy.
He's still in some pain, but nothing more than would be normally expected.
Looks like he'll be coming home on Thursday.

Thank you all for your prayers!

Update on my Dad

Since getting out of the hospital a few weeks ago, Dad has still been struggling with some chest pains and some other complications related to his medications. Last night (December 26th) Dad was experiencing more chest pains, but this time the nitroglycerin didn't help the pain. He was advised by his doctor to head to the Emergency Room. Once there it was decided to keep him overnight for observation and a talk with his Cardiologist.

This morning (December 27th) the doctor told dad that he would need to stay in the hospital until they can get the date for his surgery moved up. His surgery was moved to Wednesday, January 2nd.

Would you please pray for him as he spends at least the next week in the hospital? Please pray that he would have patience and also that he would not have any other complications.

Also, Dad's birthday is on January 1st. As I'm sure this will be very discouraging for him to be in the hospital on his birthday we are organizing a card shower for him. If you would like to participate, let me know and I will get you his address.

Thanks for your prayers!

The Smith Family Christmas

We hope that all of you had a Very Merry Christmas! We had a great time spending time with family and talking to those who we couldn't spend the Holiday with. Here are some pictures of things that we did.

Our Christmas Picture

Cynthia and her presents

She didn't quite get what she was supposed to do, but we had fun taking the picture!

Cynthia and all her loot! Some of it from us and some from others.

We didn't make a big deal of Christmas for her this year because she's so little, but it was fun to get her a few things.

She wasn't quite sure what to think of the doll! She looked at it for quite a while and for some of that time she was cooing at the doll!

She was holding her own bottle!

Cynthia and I out watching daddy play with bottlerockets.

All bundled up!

She is quite interested in her thumb these days!

A family in our church gave her this doll bed for Christmas. She's a bit too young to play with it yet, but she sure looked cute laying inside it!! :)

Cynthia was pouting and her Daddy was sympathizing with her!

My Mom decided to make a dress for baby Smith to wear home from the Hospital! :) Here are the pictures:

Thanks Mom!! I'm sure it will look adorable on Cynthia!!

Note: The dress is red and white checked and has some rick rack and appliqués on it! She also made matching bloomers and hat!

Happy Birthday to me!

Yesterday was my Birthday!! I had a very wonderful day!! (For all of you that are curious, I turned 26.)

** Warning....long post ahead with no photos! **

Josh had told me about 2 weeks ago that he knew what he was doing for me for my birthday, but he wasn't going to tell me what it was! Well, that drove me absolutely crazy! I very strongly dislike not knowing secrets, so I was trying really hard to figure out what he had planned and to con him out of the information, but he's just too good at keeping secrets!! :) So, I got up yesterday morning still trying to figure out the surprise but not having any luck. He told me that I'd just find out what was going on as the day progressed!

While I was at work yesterday, I kept getting messages from Facebook that people were writing on my wall. Unfortunately, I cannot access Facebook from work, so I was slightly disappointed that I wouldn't be able to read all the messages until after work sometime. THEN....I started getting the following series of messages from my wonderful husband...

*******************************************

More Birthday Greetings!!!! live coverage provided by FaceBook.

:) This message brought to you by Chicken.
(And attached were screen shots of 4 or 5 wall posts on Facebook.)

The next email:

We interupt this regularly scheduled broadcast to bring you a
BIRTHDAY UPDATE!!!

then...

This is Action News Reporter Chick N. Tender reporting from the scene of a major disturbance. It seems that Sarah Cushman has written on Shannon Smith's wall. Police have mounted a search for Sarah and there is no word if charges will be filed. More on this developing story as we get it.

then...

....................N...E...W...S.........B...U...L...L...I...T...E...N................

This is Hav'a Mul Ett bringing you an update to the "Graphitti" story we mentioned earlier: We're going live to Chick N. Tender:

Good Morning Hav'a. I'm reporting again from Shannon Smith's wall. It seems that this has become a mob disturbance as twenty people have now been indicted in what is being called "Birthday Graphitti of 2007". The latest charges have been filed against Sarah Pontius and Kelli Buckworth. An aide in the mayor's office said that if Shannon would have skipped her birthday, these "Riots" could have been avoided, but no word on wether charges will be filed against Shannon for "having her birthday." Keeping you up to date; this is Action News Reporter Chick N. Tender.

************************************

That was the end of the news bulletins, but Josh kept sending me the screen shots periodically as people wrote on my wall. However, I do have some sad news. Unfortunately, Chick N. Tender met his demise later on in the day when I believe Josh ate him for lunch!! :)

On with the birthday story....

Shortly after lunch time, my Dad calls me to wish me a Happy Birthday. While we were talking he told me that he had thought about coming down to have lunch with me, but my Mom had told him that my friend, Trina, was going to be taking me out for lunch so he didn't come down. Well...that confused me! I had eaten lunch by myself! No word from Trina. So I kinda just blew it off thinking maybe she had thought about doing that and her plans had changed and it was never mentioned to me.

Later on yesterday after my husband came and visited me and brought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers (roses and lilies) and some birthday balloons! How sweet of him!

Well, now for the confusing (to me part of the day!!) Monday afternoon I had made plans with my friend Trina and Josh to maybe meet Trina at the hospital after work to visit her new niece who had been born last week a bit premature. So shortly before 5 I sent Josh an IM asking him if I should call Trina to find out if she was still meeting us at the hospital. He said not to because we'd just show up over there.

Well, about 1 minute after that conversation, Trina shows up at my office! I was really confused!!! She looks at me and smiles and says, "I'm your dinner date!"

Josh had planned (several weeks ago) for Trina, and her Mom (also my friend) Silvia to have dinner together and have a girls night out! I was soooo surprised!!

Our first stop really was to the hospital to visit the baby! I even got to hold her! Then we went to the new Texas Roadhouse here in town for supper! That part made my day! I've been wanting to eat there for quite a while but couldn't! (Josh is allergic to peanuts, and they have peanuts ALL OVER that restaurant!)

We then went shopping and I found a few really cute baby outfits. I was also supposed to be picking out my Birthday present. Well, I couldn't decide what to get! I ended up getting a Willow Tree figurine that is of a couple holding an infant! Perfect!!

All-in-all, I had a WONDERFUL birthday!!

Thanks Josh for making my day so special!! I love you!

My Wonderful Husband

Friday, July 27, 2007 10:39 PM Posted by Shannon Smith 4 comments
I am so thankful for my husband. Let me tell you why!

It has been very warm up here in Wisconsin this week. This has warranted us needing to run our a/c. (It's a window unit.) Well, we soon noticed that there was a small problem.... the a/c was dripping on the inside instead of the outside. So, we stopped running it until the problem could be figured out. Last night Josh spent the majority of the evening fixing the problem. He first had to work about an hour to get the a/c out of the window it was mounted it as whoever put it there, didn't want it to EVER come out! He was able to get the problem fixed and the a/c is now happily re-installed and running again. Yay!! Thanks Babe!

Tonight, Josh was gone all night helping someone with a computer problem. When he got home he had a nice surprise for me. He had stopped at Applebees and picked me up a desert. He brought me one of their yummy Blue Ribbon Brownie Deserts!! Wow, it was SOOO yummy! I was so surprised, and very thankful, for him thinking of me like that.

I am so thankful for the wonderful husband that the Lord has given me. He is so good to me and puts up with my frequently changing pregnant moods.

Thanks Babe! I love you!

Happy Anniversary to me!

Monday, April 02, 2007 9:32 AM Posted by Shannon Smith 7 comments

Today Josh and I are celebrating our 2nd Wedding Anniversary! I can't believe that we've been married for 2 years already! We were talking the other day about how thankful we are to have married our best friend. There have been hard times that come and the path is not always easy, but knowing that I have the Lord and my best friend there with me every step of the way makes the hard time more bearable.

We have seen God work in our lives in many, many ways in the past two years. He's answered prayer and provided for all our needs. We have both discovered that the more we Serve Him the closer we grow to each other as well. The Lord has opened up opportunities in the past 2 years for us to become involved in our church and in the lives of others, and we are very grateful and humbled at the opportunities.

I am so thankful for the husband that the Lord has given me. He challenges me and encourages me. In the past few months he has done so much for me and put up with so much from me through this pregnancy! I don't deserve him! Thank you Josh for loving me and for all that you do for me! I look forward to what this year will bring for us! There will be many changes and many long day and nights but I know you will be there with me every step of the way! I LOVE YOU, HONEY!!!
